For Gran Fondos in America, this is the big one. This Saturday, October 1st, Levi Leipheimer’s King Ridge Gran Fondo goes down in beautiful Sonoma County, CA (route map below). Over 7,000 riders, helicopters, media coverage, and one of America’s most decorated pro cyclists all converge to make the KRGF the most well-known Gran Fondo this side of L’Etape du Tour.
Sonoma County has to be one of the best places on earth to ride a bicycle. Through wine country, up and over fantastic switchback climbs, out to the Pacific Ocean and back, this year’s route has it all. Add in thousands of riders, rolling road closures, and pre/post parties (check out RadioShack Downtown on Friday night), and you have yourself one heck of a way to kick off your autumn riding season.
Here’s last year’s highlight video including interviews with Levi:

Hope you are doing well Matt! Good to see AGR back in action…I’ve missed your posts! Looks like a sweet ride here. Would love to get out to CA one of these days and do some riding!
Great to hear from you Andy. You’re invited anytime you can make it out here! Would love to join you guys on the Brewery ride some year too.
Hello,
Gosh that is one gorgeous video of the Granfondo…Thought you would like a heads up on this event—the major new initiative by the Napa County Bicycle Coalition. And yeah, it seems to capture all that makes Napa what it is: world class wine and food, and a rock star cyclist who is the best America has to offer….
I am reaching out because we’ve got an event that might be of interest to some of your readers, so I thought I’d forward the information to you. Basically, it’s a chance to ride with Levi Leipheimer for a day as part of a small group (no more than 25 permitted), eat some great food prepared by world-class chefs, and drink some amazing wine made by famous winemakers who love to ride – all while making a tax-deductible donation to Napa Bike.
Any chance you could write a little something about this to get it on more people’s radar? I know it has a hefty price tag but 100% of the proceeds go to the Napa Bicycle Coalition to ensure we can continue and accelerate our agenda. Napa has always received the smallest share of transportation funding, especially for bicycle infrastructure in the San Francisco Bay Area. Ironically, our roads are heavily impacted by visitors as the 3rd most visited destination in California. So we have a lot of work to do and need to add resources to get the job done.
I hope some of your followers and friends are interested in helping out. We just launched this last week and we’ve already got 7 of the spots taken.
Please email me if you have any questions. Also, I love your blog. =)

Aileen Carroll
